Here at Tradewind Recruitment we have a range of chemistry teaching jobs to suit you, wherever you are based in the UK. We have a range of roles that stretch across the age groups whether you are looking for a teaching job in a high school or a college we will have something for you. You will find each job description contains the information you will need to make an informative decision about whether or not the role is for you.

Chemistry is a vital and rewarding scientific discipline that plays an important part in everyday life, and is crucial in preparing students to enter many aspects of modern working life and industry.

It is an increasingly popular subject, with the proportion of students choosing chemistry as a subject rising every year since 2010, resulting in record numbers of chemistry students.

To address this unprecedented demand for the subject, there are many incentives offered to those who teach it. Qualified chemistry teachers benefit from great opportunities for career progression and increased pay, and start with a competitive starting salary.

The job is particularly rewarding, allowing teachers the opportunity to engage with children through creative lessons that demonstrate the practical uses of chemistry and allow them to develop as learners and young scientists.

If you are thinking of becoming a chemistry teacher you must meet several essential requirements, including classroom experience and academic qualifications. These include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • GCSEs (grades A-C) in English language, maths, and science
  • Must pass required health tests and criminal restriction check

To achieve Qualified Teacher Status any of the following courses must be completed:

  • Undergraduate teaching degree followed by a Postgraduate certificate in Education (PGCE)
  • Graduate/Registered Teacher Training programme
  • Teaching degree
  • School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)

In addition to these essential requirements, if your knowledge of the chemistry is felt to be in need of improvement, there are Further Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses (SKEs) available on the subject which may be necessary to take before you begin teacher training.

Such courses and are available at schools, colleges and universities around the country, are fully funded, and can be completed in parallel with some or all of your teacher training, or before you begin teacher training. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any queries you have regarding our chemistry teaching jobs or anything else.
