Do you have experience supporting young people with challenging behaviours or SEMH?

Have you worked as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or Residential Support Worker?

About the role:

  • SEMH Teaching Assistant for a secondary Alternative Provision setting.
  • Start date - ASAP.
  • Full time and long term with the potential to turn in to a permanent contract.
  • Pay up to £75 per day.
  • Providing behaviour and pastoral support to small groups & on a 1:1 basis.
  • You must have previous experience as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker or Residential Support Worker.
  • The new SEMH Teaching Assistant will need to build strong relationships with pupils quickly based on fun, honesty, consistency, positive re-reinforcement and respect while setting appropriate boundaries.
  • You will need to act as a positive role model and show strong behaviour management & de-escalation skills as well as patience, resilience and perseverance.

  • Secondary Alternative Provision catering for young people with SEMH.

  • Broad curriculum based on childrens' needs and interests including vocational learning.
  • Staff know the pupils and have strong relationships which encourages attendance and engagement.
  • Supportive management and welcoming, environment.



About the pupils:

  • All pupils are at KS3 or 4 however often working at lower than expected levels for their age.
  • They have a range of needs including SEMH, ADHD, ODD etc.
  • Pupils are all permanently excluded or at high risk of permanent exclusion from their mainstream school however many successfully re-engage in mainstream or gain academic success within the provision.
  • Some pupils require 1:1 pastoral support at times to help manage their emotions & behaviour.
  • Some pupils can display verbal or physical challenging behaviours so any SEMH Teaching Assistant in this role will need strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills.
