About the role

This is a SEN Teaching Assistant role starting as soon as possible. You will be required to support a pupil in Year 10 on a 1:1 basis throughout the day. The pupil has low functioning Autism which includes sensory, communication and learning needs. Sometimes the pupil can become anxious or frustrated as a result of their obstacles to learning. You will need to help notice and manage their triggers and help make progress with their emotions, behaviour and learning. As a SEN Teaching Assistant you will need to work closely with the class teacher to support in lessons and activities. They also have regular input from a speech and language therapist so you will need to support them and help the pupil progress their use of PECS and other strategies to increase their communication and understanding.

About the school

The school is a new build environment with state of the art facilities that were designed to meet their needs of their pupils. They look after young people at secondary & college age, 11-19 years old, that all have an EHCP for SEN including Autism, Complex Needs and SEMH. They aim "to create a happy, caring and progressive learning environment where each person is valued equally and respected unconditionally". Class sizes are usually no more than 8 pupils and each pupil usually has 1:1 support due to the nature of their needs. They have high expectations but are incredibly supportive and supply staff are treated like one of their own.
