This client is six-form entry, mixed gender secondary school in Walthamstow, East London with 840 students on roll. It admits 180 girls and boys to Year 7 each year. Ofsted rating of the school is 'good'. They are a happy, successful and very popular 11 to 16 mixed comprehensive school. This school are also holders of the Platinum Quality Mark for Professional Development and the Arts Mark Platinum Award

The school are proud of their inclusive ethos. Students from all backgrounds and abilities are welcomed and flourish within a safe and caring environment. Students make great progress during their time at the school because they are supported and have a great pastoral care in place for all.

The arts are so important to our client. Their Drama department plays a key role ensuring that all our students access a full and enjoyable curriculum and experience a wide range of cultural capital opportunities and great extra-curricular activities. Drama and Music teachers work really closely together and this energy and synergy helps ensure our students enjoy a great experience and develop a love of the arts.

The Drama Curriculum

At Years 7, 8 and 9 all students have two 60-minute lessons of drama per fortnight. In years 10 and 11 students have five 60-minute lessons of drama per fortnight. Drama is a popular subject with many students choosing to continue studying it in year 10 and 11 through GCSE AQA Drama. Students enjoy Drama and the breadth of experiences including a wide range of plays, fiction literature, themes and related issues. The department has established links with a wide range of outside agencies and takes regular trips to the theatre with students.

Facilities

There is a large drama studio with mezzanine floor for sound and lighting, an activities studio and an assembly hall with full sound, staging and lighting facilities also including a mezzanine floor and lighting gallery.

Extra-curricular

The school commitment to the arts and cultural capital experiences enable our young people to access high quality extra-curricular activities and performances. Students take part in a range of different performance opportunities throughout the year in school, locally and further afield. Waltham Forest was the first London Borough of Culture in 2019 and the school was closely involved in its implementation and in its legacy planning and provision. There is an annual school play which is a real highlight and drama is featured in various assemblies and concerts that are organized throughout the school year.

What our client is looking for?

They have a great team and want someone who shares their passion for the potential of drama to lead our young people and help them express themselves and be the best they can be. The successful applicant will be a great teacher, committed to leading extra-curricular activities. You will have a detailed subject knowledge of Drama and the new GCSE curriculum and experience and knowledge of working with students within a classroom across the age range. You will be well organised, energetic and willing to go the 'extra mile'.

All staff will benefit from full CPD course which is offered to all member of staff and benefit from the brand new state-of-the-art building.

This client is based in Waltham Forest and has excellent transport links with the closet tube being only 2 mins walks. No onsite parking available, but a public car park is a short walk from the school.
