Teacher of Chemistry - September 2020

(Full time Maternity cover but will also consider part time)

A dedicated and dynamic teacher of secondary science is required to teach Chemistry to KS5 at an Outstanding secondary Boys school in the Borough of Richmond.
This post is a Maternity cover and due to start in September 2020 and Interviews will commence via video-link asap.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Chemistry department at this very high achieving school currently consists of 10 full-time teachers and four technical staff. The subject is taught in eight well-equipped laboratories, each with the facility for data projection. There is also a large department office with photocopying and printing facilities as well as plenty of storage for the department's resources. All members of staff are provided with laptops.

Chemistry results are excellent, with 98% of students achieving Grades 9-7 for GCSE Chemistry in 2019. In the Sixth Form, approximately 130 students study one of the three courses on offer - CIE Pre-U, OCR Chemistry A Level and OCR AS Level Chemistry. Sets of up to 14 pupils are taught by two teachers who work in parallel. Students are taught for seven 40-minute periods per week in the Lower Sixth and nine 40-minute periods per week in the Upper Sixth.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and successful department in an outstanding School. The successful candidate will be expected to teach around 30 (40 minute) lessons per week, which would potentially include a games afternoon and a form tutor period. The role involves planning appropriate lessons and dealing with marking and reporting.
