Design Technology & Food Technician
Location: Barking and Dagenham, London
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Are you a versatile and practical individual with a passion for both Design Technology and Food Technology? A thriving secondary school in Barking & Dagenham, is looking for a DT & Food Technician to join our dynamic and collaborative team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across both departments, supporting a range of creative and hands-on learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain materials, tools, and equipment for both Design Technology and Food Technology lessons.
  • Assist teaching staff with the setup and smooth running of practical sessions in workshops and kitchens.
  • Provide technical support to students during lessons, ensuring they use tools, machines, and kitchen equipment safely.
  • Maintain and organise stock, ordering supplies as required for both departments.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support projects, ensuring the curriculum runs smoothly across the departments.
  • Help create an inspiring and safe learning environment, contributing to displays and student showcases.
  • Oversee the maintenance of machinery and equipment, including workshop tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, and kitchen appliances.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met in both the workshop and kitchen environments.

About You:

  • Previous experience in a technician role, ideally within a school setting, or a strong background in Design Technology and/or Food Technology.
  • Ability to use and maintain workshop tools, machinery, and kitchen equipment.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work flexibly across departments.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, ensuring the smooth running of practical lessons.
  • A commitment to supporting students' learning and safety in both creative and technical environments.
