Learning Support Assistant - Alternative Provision (AP) School
Location: Northampton
Start Date: Immediate / As Soon As Possible
Contract: Long-term via Tradewind Recruitment, with strong potential for a permanent role
Essential: Full UK driving licence + access to a vehicle (multi-site role)

Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be supporting a well-established Alternative Provision school in Northampton that is seeking a committed Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team.

This specialist setting provides a nurturing and therapeutic learning environment for students with:

  • Significant mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, and school refusal

  • Emotional and behavioural challenges that require patient and consistent support

  • Physical difficulties that can affect engagement and classroom participation

The school offers a highly personalised curriculum designed to rebuild confidence, promote emotional wellbeing, and help students re-engage with learning at a pace that reflects their individual needs. Staff work with sensitivity, structure, and resilience to ensure each learner feels safe, understood, and supported.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Providing calm, consistent one-to-one or small-group support

  • Supporting personalised learning activities adapted to students' abilities

  • Encouraging emotional regulation and helping pupils manage overwhelming moments

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people who may struggle to connect

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff

  • Travelling between multiple Northampton sites depending on the daily staffing and student requirements

We Are Looking For Someone With:

  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, behavioural challenges, or physical difficulties

  • A background in youth work, specialist education, mental health support, care settings, or similar environments

  • Strong resilience, excellent communication skills, and a genuinely empathetic approach

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing situations

  • A full driving licence and access to a car (essential due to multi-site structure)
