Job Description

Pastoral Support Worker - Secondary Schools (Daventry)
Full-Time | School Hours | Via Tradewind Recruitment
Permanent roles available

Are you confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting pupils who struggle to stay engaged in the classroom? Tradewind Recruitment is seeking resilient, proactive Pastoral Support Workers to join our partner secondary schools in Daventry. These schools rely heavily on strong pastoral teams to support students who are frequently removed from lessons, at risk of exclusion, or facing barriers that impact their behaviour and readiness to learn.

This is a vital role for pupils with SEND, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and those who require additional guidance, structure and calm intervention throughout the school day. You will often be the first point of contact for students who have been sent out of class, are dysregulated, or need help to get back on track.

What will you be doing?
As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will:

  • Respond quickly to behaviour incidents and support pupils who have been removed from lessons.

  • Supervise and mentor students in isolation rooms, reflection rooms or on behaviour contracts.

  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage heightened emotions and prevent further disruption.

  • Provide restorative conversations to help pupils understand expectations and rebuild relationships with staff.

  • Support pupils with SEND and SEMH who present with challenging behaviour, emotional dysregulation or disengagement.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships that promote positive choices and a sense of belonging.

  • Work closely with behaviour leads, SENCOs, safeguarding teams and parents to ensure joined-up support.

  • Track behaviour incidents, maintain records and follow school behaviour and safeguarding procedures.

  • Support reintegration back into lessons and encourage positive attitudes to learning.

Who is this role ideal for?
Candidates with experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Behaviour support or PRU/AP experience

  • Youth work or mentoring teenagers

  • SEMH or SEND support

  • Sports coaching or roles requiring authority and rapport-building

  • Residential support or care work

  • Psychology, criminology or social care graduates

What we're looking for:

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • A calm, firm and consistent approach

  • The ability to build rapport quickly with challenging pupils

  • Full-time availability during school hours

Through Tradewind Recruitment, both long-term and permanent roles are available. If you are confident supporting pupils who are frequently removed from lessons and want to make a real impact in Daventry's secondary schools, we'd love to hear from you.
