Job Description
Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Job Type: Full-time, Long-term (temporary to permanent).
Start Date: September 2026 / Immediate
Are you an inspirational Secondary Teacher who thrives on making an impact where it is needed most? Do you have the creativity, resilience, and empathy to re-engage a young person who has slipped through the cracks of mainstream education?
We are looking for a dedicated 1:1 Intervention Teacher to work within a supportive Alternative Provision (AP) in Burnley. This full-time role involves delivering a bespoke, high-impact curriculum on a strict 1:1 basis to a secondary-aged student (KS3/KS4) with complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The Role
Instead of managing a class of thirty, this role allows you to focus your expertise entirely on one student who finds standard classroom environments overwhelming. You will be responsible for creating an environment where they feel safe, understood, and motivated to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
Bespoke Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver tailored, accessible lessons focused on core subjects (Functional Skills/GCSE English and Maths) alongside nurture-based and project-based learning.
De-escalation & Emotional Support: Use a trauma-informed approach to recognize triggers, diffuse challenging behavior, and help the student regulate their emotions.
Break Down Barriers: Re-build the student's confidence in education by celebrating small wins and focusing heavily on relationship-driven teaching.
Collaborate on Progress: Work closely with the provision's leadership team, SENDCo, and external agencies to track academic milestones and emotional development.
What We Are Looking For
Qualifications: QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification. Applications from strong ECTs or Unqualified Teachers with significant AP/PRU experience are welcome.
Experience: A proven track record of teaching secondary-aged pupils with SEMH, ADHD, ASD, or challenging behaviors. Experience within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), inclusion unit, or specialized provision is highly advantageous.
Key Traits: A calm, patient demeanor, excellent boundaries, and a sense of humor. You must be adaptable and ready to pivot your lesson plan at a moment's notice based on the student's emotional state.
Vetting: Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
