Job Description

Location: Kirkham / Blackpool area, Lancashire

Job Type: Full-time, Long-term

Start Date: September 2026

Are you looking to secure a rewarding, long-term classroom role ahead of the September rush? Whether you are an experienced Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, a graduate looking to build school experience before your PGCE, or a youth support worker looking to transition into secondary education, we have the perfect opportunity for you.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded secondary school in the Kirkham / Blackpool area for the full 2026/27 academic year. This full-time role focuses on supporting Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students, helping them bridge gaps in their learning and achieve their academic potential.

The Role

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in creating an inclusive, focused, and productive learning environment. You will work dynamically across the school, blending whole-class support with targeted interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Intervention: Work with small groups or on a 1:1 basis to break down complex tasks in core subjects (English, Maths, and Science), keeping students on track with their learning objectives.

  • Classroom & Behaviour Support: Partner with subject teachers to model positive behaviour, minimise classroom disruption, and keep students engaged.

  • Pastoral Care: Provide vital social and emotional support to students who face barriers to learning, helping to build their confidence and school resilience.

  • SEND Inclusion: Assist students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, and autism (ASD), ensuring they can fully access the secondary curriculum.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or teenagers aged 11-16 (this could be in a mainstream school, tutoring, coaching, youth clubs, or care settings).

  • Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable, but a strong academic background or graduate degree with a passion for education is equally welcome.

  • Character: An adaptable, reliable, and patient professional with excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour. You must have the ability to build quick, trusted rapport with secondary students.

  • Vetting: Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service.
