What Qualifications will I need
Many nurseries differentiate in what they are looking for, and most will employ unqualified candidate as long as they have the correct GCSE grades and correct work experience. For many higher positions, you will need some form of a qualification, and there are plenty out there from BTEC’s to Diploma’s.
Requirements to be a Nursery Nurse
- Grade A* - C in GCSE level qualifications, in particular for the core subjects including Maths and English.
- Experience working with children and infants under 5 years old.
- A Disclosure and Barring Service will be carried out which you must pass to be able to work with children.
How to improve my chances
Even though most nurseries will hire a candidate without any qualifications, you must be able to prove you can work with children which is why you must have work experience working in childcare whether it will show your future employer that you have had hands on experience. If you did want a qualification to put on your CV then we have a list of a few that might help you land a nursery job: National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB) Diploma, Level 3 Diploma in Pre-School Practice, BTEC in Nursery Nursing, Level 2 Early Years Education and Childcare qualification, and having a First Aid Qualification is also desirable.
