As a Primary School Teacher, you will

  • Create develop lesson plans on a daily basis for subjects across the curriculum
  • Be highly organised, able to keep on top of large quantities of paperwork
  • Be involved in staff meetings, training and parents’ evenings

Will I need any Qualifications?


You will need QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) to become a Primary School Teacher. There are various pathways you can choose to obtain this. If you have already graduated from University, you can complete a Postgraduate Teacher Training Course which can either be completed with your University or with a School. As an undergraduate, you can complete a three year Bachelor Degree in Education.


To become a Primary School Teacher, you must:

  • Have an A* - C in Maths, English and Science GSCE, as well as suitable A’ Levels
  • Be able to pass a simple numeracy and literacy skills test
  • Have valid work experience within a Primary School (completed as part of your training)
  • A DBS check will need to be carried out before you work with children
