Tradewind Recruitment can take the stress out of your hunt for that dream SEN Job in Bristol.

If you are a type of person who can deal with and manage challenging behaviour, use initiative and give empathy then an SEN Teaching role would be perfect for you. Working as an SEN Teacher means you will be challenged on a daily basis, however, the rewards are infinite. You will be helping students who struggle more than their peers to reach their full potential.

SEN Teaching jobs across Bristol

You will help pupils with reading, writing, and numeracy as well as with creative work. Your pupils might have a physical disability, sensory disability, be emotionally vulnerable or have a learning disability such as Dyslexia, Autism or Downs Syndrome. It can be difficult for some children to process information like others do, making the support you provide essential to their development and progress.

Not only will you be supporting their learning but you should be a person that the pupils can turn to for comfort and a helping hand. You will need to be able to extend sympathy and encouragement on a daily basis. You will be working with senior staff to ensure that reasonable adjustments to teaching and access are made for the right students. If this sounds like a job for you, get in touch today!

Job responsibilities include:

  • Admin tasks – keeping development plans up to date for each pupil.
  • Prepare lesson plans – including the use of specialist learning equipment.
  • Liaise with parents and carers – updating them on development and progress
  • Have the ability to use Braille and sign language with pupils where needed.
  • Be skilled in the proper methods of communication relating to your pupil’s needs.
  • Attend meetings with other staff members as well as take part in training days.
  • Liaise and work well with other staff members, social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists.
  • Organise and attend activities outside of the classroom for the pupils.

Qualifications to become an SEN Teacher

To become a strong candidate for the role of an SEN Teacher there are a few pathways you can take. First of all, you can get a degree, either a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, if you don’t have a degree then you can start out as an SEN Teaching Assistant. There are plenty of different courses and programmes, such as the School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) or the Graduate Teacher Programme – which is basically on the job training!
