Requirements to become a Classroom Teaching Assistant

Do I need qualifications?
You don’t necessarily need any qualifications to become a Teaching Assistant, but having some form of work experience in a school is beneficial. Although having a teaching qualification isn’t a must have to become a Teaching Assistant, they do work in an advantage, they help you stand out from the crowd. If you do not have any experience we recommend that you complete work experience at your local school.
Below are some main requirements of a teaching assistant:
- Experience working with children.
- GCSE grades C or above in Maths, English and Science.
- Have quality writing, reading and numeracy skills.
- You will be DBS checked by the school (Disclosure and Barring service check) and you must pass this to be able to work with children.
