The secondary school is in Waltham Forest for children with Autism with a therapeutic approach. It has places for between 80 and 112 children and young people, catering for Year 7 to Year 11. Your day as a Secondary Autism Support Worker will depend entirely on how you support the children and work with a lovely team of support staff. There really are no limits to the interests, passions, hobbies, and activities that the students we support enjoy



Job Specification:

The ideal candidate would need to have a strong understanding of working with children who have special educational needs
Able to follow and deliver aims of pupils EHCP Plan and update this with pupils progress and work with other teaching assistants and support workers
Contribute to developing individual programs for pupils with special needs
Exceptional communicators and strong team-players
To share responsibility for the health and safety of pupils and colleagues at all times
To lead activities and scaffold learning in teacher and child-initiated learning both indoors and outdoors

Students with Social and Emotional Difficulties and students with Autism
Students attend on both full time and part time bases
Students may require 1:1 or work in small classes - students will focus on Music, Art, Sports and other practical subjects

It is key for this role that you are positive and enjoy having a laugh. The pupils you will be supporting are an active bunch and enjoy various leisure and activities in the community - including swimming, for example. Please ensure you can commit to this role, as reliability for the students you will be supporting is a key factor. They require stability and need support in accessing activities to allow them to achieve their full potential.

The position would suit energetic and creative professionals who are looking to make a difference to the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and mental health difficulties as well as furthering their own professional development. Experience of working in a school is not essential but knowledge and expertise of professional conduct and practices is required - particularly in nurturing approaches and behaviour management similar approaches. You will be joining a school with strong leadership and committed staff team with a growing number of pupils and expanding school.
