An opportunity to join our highly motivated and skilled team as a BSL Teaching Assistant has become available.

SANZA Teaching Agency is currently working with a deafblind provision in the borough of Wandsworth who is looking for a highly motivated and ambitious BSL Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about transforming young peoples' lives, promoting independence and has a desire to develop their career in a Special School setting. You'll be working within an experienced team of colleagues committed to providing high quality support and education to the children and young people across the school.

This SEN School is a leading provider of education for hearing and visually-impaired children and young people aged 2 - 19 years. They have an impressive three-acre campus in Wimbledon offering fabulous indoor and outdoor innovative facilities to support teaching and learning. The role of BSL Teaching is due to start immediately and will continue until the end of the academic year with the possibility of extending until July 2022 for the ideal person. The daily rate for this Intervenor role is £70 -£ 90 per day and your working hours are 8.30 - 3.45, Monday to Friday and term time only.


Your role as a BSL Teaching Assistant will be to work within the deafblind provision is to work closely with students using British Sign Language to ensure they make continued progress. This deafblind provision incorporates a total communication approach where any and all means of communication that works best for each student is supported which may include any or all of the following: sign, spoken language, written language, braille, pictures, objects, gestures, and low or high tech augmentative communication systems.

To be shortlisted for the role as a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will need to:

  • Have prior experience working with students with sensory impairment needs
  • Be compassionate and able to work independently or part of a team
  • You have BSL (British Sign Language) qualifications
  • Be available on full-time and on term time basis
