Computer Science Teacher - April 2019

An enthusiastic, well-qualified teacher of Computer Science is required to teach Computer Science to KS5 at an Outstanding school in the Borough of Richmond.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a new but growing, dynamic and exciting department, in an outstanding School, where many students are already developing their own coding and computing skills. The successful candidate will be expected to teach around 30 (40 minute) lessons per week, which would usually include a games afternoon and a form tutor period. The role involves planning appropriate lessons and dealing with marking and reporting. In this academically selective school, the challenges include stretching the most able students up to Oxbridge level.

SALARY
Your pay will be to scale with possible TLR dependant on your experience and suitability.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Computer Science Department was formed in September 2016 and the subject is now extremely popular.
The successful candidate will be teaching the Edexcel International GCSE course, AQA, A level and AS level computer science. You would also be expected to be fully involved in developing policy and taking responsibility for various areas of the Computer Science curriculum and the running of the Department.
There are 5 IT suites, and all students and staff have their own iPads. Staff also have their own laptops.

JOB SPECIFICATION

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills, qualifications and experience.

Essential Criteria:

*A good honours degree in a numerate or computer science subject
*Enthusiasm for computing and the ability to convey this to pupils, up to Sixth Form
*Knowledge of at least one of Python, Pascal/Delphi, C# or VB.Net, and the willingness to learn Python if not already known
*The ability to demonstrate characteristics of outstanding teaching practice
*An awareness of the demands of teaching bright students and a commitment to fostering high academic achievement
*The ability to work as part of a team
*A professional approach which inspires confidence in pupils and parents
*Excellent communication and ICT skills
*Calmness and efficiency, with the ability to work under pressure at times
*Commitment to continuing professional development through attendance at INSET
*Commitment to the all-round ethos of the School, including its co-curricular activities and pastoral approach

Desirable Criteria
*A higher degree or experience of educational or subject-specific research
*A teaching qualification and/or some previous teaching experience
*The ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all members of the school community and outside agencies
*An ability to offer skills in some part of the extra-curricular programme of the school
*Enjoy rising to the challenge inherent in a school environment
