Tradewind are currently recruiting for a Teacher of English, for a maternity cover role!

Tradewind are working with an excellent school in Hull, who are looking for an outstanding English teacher, who can join their extremely successful department, on a full time basis, starting in January 2021. This is a maternity cover position, and will last until at least the end of the academic year (July 2021), with the possibility of it extending for a full year, until January 2022. In terms of payment, this will be scaled to the Main Teaching Pay Scale.

You will be working in a truly excellent school, that is entirely focused on ensuring that the students educational, and personal needs are catered for. Being the very centre of the community, you will be working with a close knit team, who are extremely supportive of all staff members. Having worked with this school for a number of years, I can truly say that it is an outstanding place to work, with a wonderful English department. This a comprehensive 11-16 school, so experience teaching A level students is not essential for this position. You will have GCSE classes on your timetable, so we are looking for a true English specialist who has experience teaching the new GCSE specification. Ideally, we are looking for a practitioner who has experience working towards the AQA specification, but this is by no means essential for this role.

In terms of your teaching timetable, you will predominantly be teaching Key Stage 3 English, but there will be at least one Year 10 class on the timetable. As there is not quite a full teaching timetable on offer, you will be spending a few hours per week working as an intervention teacher, providing intervention on a 1:1 basis, or a small group basis. Having worked with the school for a number of years, I can say first hand the importance of intervention to the school, in terms of academic achievement, but also in terms of wellbeing for the students. This work that you will be imperative in helping the year 10/year 11 students catch up, but will also be invaluable time spent with the students to ensure that their wider needs are catered for.

*Delivering 1:1 and English intervention
*Planning and marking in line with the national curriculum

We are looking for a teacher with effective subject knowledge, and an eagerness to provide an excellent quality of education. You will be working with an excellent head of department who is willing to work hard to help develop staff members. A teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent)
