School technicians are responsible for assisting the general set up, hygiene, stock, and support of practical lessons/departments within school. They often have to liaise with the department but also assist within the classroom - offering a hand to any students that may need help or further explanation!

Science technician

A science technician is responsible for preparing practical equipment, providing technical support to teachers, and ensuring the health and safety of the labs and prep rooms. Some of the tasks expected to be completed by a science technician include:

Setting up experiments

Ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed to provide a safe working environment for the pupils

Maintaining stock within the department as well as the condition of the equipment and resources

Offering support and guidance to pupils who need it

Assisting the teacher with practical demonstrations

Design and technology technicians

DT Technicians are important members of staff within a school team as the department is so vast! With multiple avenues of design and technology, technicians are often needed to assist subjects such as textiles, metal work, woodwork, graphics, and food. You will be a vital staple in assisting with such large practical lessons but also able to provide insight, knowledge, and assistance to the pupils within the classroom.

Setting up equipment and materials for DT lessons

Ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed to provide a safe working environment for the pupils

Supporting the teacher with practical lessons

Maintaining the equipment and tools in the workshop and classroom

Maintaining stock within the department as well as the condition of the equipment and resources

IT technician

The role of an IT technician is to look after school networks, install, order and maintain software and hardware and provide technical support to teachers and pupils.

Maintaining the school's network

Installing new software and upgrading existing applications

Providing technical support for students and teachers

Ensuring internet systems are safe

Training students and teachers on how to use different systems and software

Maintaining and developing the school's website
