Are you passionate about food and education? Do you have a background in a related field and a keen interest in culinary arts? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Food Technician at our Southwark Secondary School.

Responsibilities:

As a Food Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our Food and Nutrition department. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Assisting Teachers: Collaborating with food and nutrition teachers to prepare and set up practical lessons and demonstrations.

  2. Maintaining Kitchen Equipment: Ensuring all kitchen equipment is clean, well-maintained, and in safe working order.

  3. Food Preparation: Assisting in the preparation and handling of ingredients for cooking lessons, adhering to strict hygiene and safety guidelines.

  4. Stock Control: Managing inventory of food supplies, equipment, and resources to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

  5. Health and Safety: Upholding high standards of health and safety within the kitchen area and during practical lessons.

  6. Supporting Students: Providing guidance and support to students during practical sessions, fostering their love for food and nutrition.

  7. Administrative Tasks: Assisting with administrative tasks related to the food and nutrition department, such as record-keeping and ordering supplies.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  1. Experience: Previous experience in a related field, such as food preparation, catering, or a similar role, is highly desired.

  2. Passion for Food: An enthusiastic interest in food and nutrition, with a desire to share this passion with students.

  3. Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills to manage kitchen resources, supplies, and schedules effectively.

  4. Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, particularly concerning health and safety standards.

  5. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and colleagues.

  6. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing needs and priorities in a dynamic school environment.

  7. Food Hygiene: Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations is a plus.
