Tradewind Recruitment are looking to recruit for the role of Head of Product Design or Resistant Materials at a fantastic school near Croydon. The post will commence in September 2021 and will be a permanent appointment.

Product Design is an established subject within a newly restructured creative arts curriculum. Product Design has a strong reputation and is fully embedded into the curriculum at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. The Design curriculum is enriching and inspiring. All students study Design and Technology at KS3. Uptake is strong at KS4 for Product Design and there is a clear pathway through to KS5. Product Design at the school consists of GCSE and A Level Product Design, that sit together with the other creative options such as Design, Textiles and Catering. We are looking for a specialist in Product Design or Design and Technology (Resistant Materials).

The Creative Arts department benefits from brand new facilities including a kiln room, dark room, workshop and large specialist classrooms for each creative subject. In joining this school you will be working as part of a strong and supportive team, where your skills and expertise will help to develop students into innovative, independent and brave young artists and designers with a broad range of skills ready for further education and the creative industries.

There is a strong team spirit, which has contributed to a supportive learning environment for both staff and students at Coombe Wood School. Our staff are ready to overcome unexpected challenges, break fresh ground, encourage collaboration and share excellent teaching skills within our hardworking and dedicated group.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for student progress and achievement in KS3 Design, KS4 Design Technology and KS5 Product Design
  • To monitor the writing, evaluating, monitoring and reviewing of schemes of learning that enhance the teaching of and support student progress in KS3 Design, KS4 Design Technology and KS5 Product Design
  • To monitor the standard of teaching and learning by completing regular lesson observations, learning walks and work scrutiny.
  • Lead development of pedagogy through monitoring, evaluating and supporting learning in lessons. Exemplify good practice in their own classrooms and be open to others observing this.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database on student progress and monitor identified sub-groups across KS4 and KS5 Product Design.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Be a Teacher of Product Design or Resistant Materials who holds QTS status or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Have excellent knowledge of the Design Technology curriculum.
  • This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure, Overseas Police Clearance (if applicable) and professional reference checks.
  • Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and any employment breaks must be explained.
  • You must have the legal right to work in the UK.
