The School
This traditional and successful co-ed school has been rated consistently as 'Outstanding' by OFSTED and is held in high regard by the local community. GCSE and A level results at this school are typically among the very highest in the country.
Students are given the very best opportunity to achieve well and their outstanding results enable them to be truly ambitious as they take the next steps in their lives. The past few months have been challenging, but the results attained by students at the school are richly deserved and are the culmination of years of hard work.
A level students have attained places at a wide range of universities (with the highest number securing places at Oxbridge for many years), studying a huge variety of courses.
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak, rigorous, well-planned in-lesson assessment and support has become a crucial element of practice at the school. An new version of the school's Teaching Excellence Criteria has been produced and their CPD is being adapted to place a greater focus on interleaving familiar and unfamiliar subject knowledge as well as 'synoptic' lesson-planning to enhance longer term learning.
CPD
Professional development of all new staff (regardless of experience) is coordinated throughout the first year by an experienced Teaching and Learning Mentor. One-to-one discussions about classroom practice are planned on a fortnightly basis in tandem with a programme of developmental observations.
As well as our CPD programme requiring all staff to share their practice in some way and to engage in Action Research, we also encourage members of staff to share good practice by opening the doors to their classroom for those in other departments.
Parents and pupils at this school expect consistently outstanding teaching and so continuing professional development (CPD) is at the heart of our school calendar and routines for teachers. Teachers receive regular feedback on their teaching, via developmental lesson observations and conversations about pupils' work. There are also structured opportunities for teachers to review their own practice.
