To start in January, this role involves teaching Science to Year 7 -11 classes of SEN learners. As a Special Needs school, class sizes are small with a maximum of 10 pupils per class. The school Schemes of Work based on the national curriculum that have been formatted specifically for SEN learners working below the national average. All staff work to break learning down into small steps and personalised targets for each pupil. With a high commitment to inclusion and equality, you will be experienced in adapting your lessons to ensure students of all abilities and levels can engage with the Science curriculum. Making lessons fun is also a hugely important factor for success at this school and important for keeping students engaged.

The school is a fun and lively community to work in with many different events for staff and student engagement. For example, this term the school held a Super Hero Friday, where staff and students came dressed as super heroes and conducted a parade in the school hall.

The school aspires to facilitate learning in a professional and caring environment. Teachers support students to develop their self-esteem, core values and independence. With strong support, all pupils are encouraged to reach their highest potential and achieve progress in functional literacy, numeracy and life skills. As a teacher in this community oriented school, you will be supported by a passionate and experienced team who have a strong understanding of SEN.

In terms of growth and career progression, the school is specifically looking to bring on board teachers who can step into more senior roles within the department over time. The role would initially continue until the end of the academic year, with opportunities to transition to a permanent contract after this.

The ideal Teacher would have:
*QTS and a relevant qualification in Science
*The ability to confidently lead Science lessons and run experiements with the class
*SEN teaching experience with evidence of outstanding classroom practice
*The ability to be able to manage complex and challenging pupil behaviour.
*Responsibility for a Tutor Group
*A passion for working in an SEN environment
*Team Leadership skills to support the science department

*Has 240 pupils aged 11-19 years old
*Provides placements for children and young people who have Complex Moderate Learning Difficulties (CMLD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
*Follows the National Curriculum with no students disapplied.
*Offers vocational training opportunities and life skills development
*Has an onsite Multi-Disciplinary Team, comprising of Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
*Is well resourced to support SEN pupils with a sensory room, break-out spaces and a nurture room
