Are you interested in working with young people age 16-19 with special needs in a Sixth Form focussing on life skills and lessons out in the community in Hillingdon, West London?

Tradewind are currently recruiting for a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant SEN TA who has ideally received Team Teach training within the past 24 months for a Special Needs school in Hillingdon, West London. They will consider other applicants without the training providing that they have good experience with autism and similar needs in this age group. The role is full time and will start as soon as possible on a long term basis for the full academic year at least, until July 2021 and will most likely continue on the same basis from September and become permanent for the right candidate.

Essential requirements:

-Experience supporting young people with special needs, autism / ASD / ASC and learning difficulties.

-Previous support work, TA or LSA work within a SEN secondary school or college or other related experience.

-Valid Team Teach certificate or significant experience in schools or with support work.

-A caring and professional manner, willing to support with the personal care of pupils.

-Must have legal right to work in the UK.

This rewarding role involves providing support to the class teacher in all lessons, doing 1:1 and group work with students in a sixth form class to keep them engaged and making progress, organising various class activities and helping to improve the academic and social ability of all students, providing support to them in an effort to help them overcome their various barriers to learning. This group focuses on life skills and out in the community lessons (adapted for COVID). They are looking for someone with an open mind and someone that will enjoy being out in the community.

All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan and the needs and abilities of the pupils vary. As with any school there can be challenging behaviour, although the school tries to work as a team with specialist input to provide the best level of support and care to the pupils each day. Experience working with young people with SEN, specifically autism (ASD / ASC), is crucial. The needs of the students are moderate but personal care may arise from time to time from supervising lunches to escorting to bathroom etc. which the school would provide training for if needed, in order to be able to support in future.

The school is a Special Needs Secondary School and Sixth Form College with a Good Ofsted, for students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autistic Spectrum Conditions (Autism / ASC), Social Emotional Mental Health needs (SEMH), Physical Impairments and or Communication Disorders. Team Teach training is beneficial for de-escalation and positive behaviour management strategies and positive handling during any conflict management.

The school is easily accessible by a number of popular bus routes and is a short bus journey to 2 nearby tube and overground stations.
