Are you an Autism Specialist? Or are you looking for an opportunity to transition into SEN Teaching? This is a wonderful provision providing inclusive and individualised support to students with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). Based on the site of a Mainstream Primary School in Ealing, the ASC Centre works with students from Reception age, all the way to Year 6.

Every aspect of the centre has been considered with the needs of the children in mind. Each class has one class teacher and 2 full time teaching assistants. Students are supported by a Speech and Language Specialist who provided 1:1 support and runs small groups sessions. There is also an Occupational Therapist who works with students to address gross motor skill and sensory issues. The school day begins at 9am and ends at 3.15pm to allow for smoother transitions in and out of school. Whilst Centre pupils receive support at the Centre, each student is also assigned a mainstream class and supported to integrate with the support of a familiar adult each day until they can do so independently.

The Centre staff follow the national curriculum and differentiate according to the levels of the pupils. Subjects taught are: English, Maths, PSED and communication and social skills. There is a focus on life skills and pupils are regularly supported on school trips into the local community. A TEACCH approach is central to the work of staff in the Centre. Training in this approach is highly desired in applicants.

The school also have a therapy dog who works with students to stimulate social integration and increase social approach behaviours and social skills.
