With around 70 pupils on the roll, all classes are made up of small groups with the average class size being eight pupils. Each class has one teacher and around 4 experienced Teaching Assistants, depending on class size. The high ratio of staff to students ensures that all students receive individualised support. Staff work hard to build positive relationships with each student, fostering a supportive and safe learning environment.
There is a large multidisciplinary team on-site who work alongside the teaching team to create educational and support plans for each student. This team includes Creative Therapists, Occupational Therapists, a Physiotherapist and an educational psychologist.
The school takes pride in having an excellent ICT provision with all pupils having access to tablets and touch screen PCs. Many PMLD and non-verbal students use technology to communicate and do so very effectively, with one student even providing a tour of the school to a Boris Johnson recently. Computer literacy would be an advantage in this role as you would regularly support pupils to develop communication skills using technology.
The school also places a big emphasis on community engagement and the development of independent living skills. Sixth form classes leave the school premise for community based lessons every day and other year groups participate in community activites once to twice a week.
The Teacher would:
*Create and teach lessons to a class of 8 students with SEN needs
*Differentiate lessons according to individual students' abilities and needs
*Teach SMSC topics: Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
*Support communication by using technology and non-verbal techniques
*Be aware of students EHCPs and individual learning needs
*Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the Multi-Disciplinary Team
*Have experience working in an SEN School environment (preferred but not required)
The school has:
*Been OFSTED rated Outstanding
*Around 70 pupils aged 11-19 years old
*Purpose built spaces for students with Autism, PMLD and multisensory needs
*An excellent ICT provision with touch computers and access to tablets for most pupils
*Hydrotherapy pool and hoist
*An extremely well-staffed SEN provision with Creative Therapists, Occupational Therapists, an educational psychologist and a physiotherapist.
