The school supports children of many different abilities, from Mild Learning Difficulties to complex needs. Behaviours are proactively managed using de-escalation techniques. The on-site Multi-Disciplinary team assess students and create individualised therapy plans to support each student with their specific learning and behaviour needs.
Independence is encouraged with pupils being supported to grow their confidence and competence academically, socially and with life skills every day. Academic classes are taught alongside vocational and skill-based classes such as Design and Technology, Food Technology, Hairdressing and Beauty, Horticulture, Dance and Art. There is also a house on site, where students can learn and practice the basic skills needed for independent living, such as cooking, setting the table, washing up, re-decorating, etc.
The school grounds are extensive with two large grass fields and many different buildings and break out spaces, including a garden for horticulture. The school is due to be rebuilt with new facilities currently being planned. The current premise feels warm and welcoming, with students' art work and photos of school events on display in every hallway. Staff here truly care. The school is keen to bring the right people onto the team and support them to grow in their career.
This position is best suited to teachers who have experience working with Autism (ASC) and complex moderate learning difficulties (CMLD). All students in the class will have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). Comfortable working with secondary aged pupils, you will be able to adapt your lessons and subject material to suit each student's ability.
The Teacher would:
*Work with a class of 10 pupils
*Teach pupils with complex needs and Autism (ASC).
*Be supported by a full time Teaching Assistant in class
*Use proactive de-escalation techniques and follow individual therapy plans
*Teach 45-minute lessons, these may be subject specific or across all subjects depending on the year group and ability of the class
*Be responsible for ensuring all students achieve their highest potential
*Tailor the learning environment and subject material to suit individual needs
*Ideally be Team Teach trained

*Has 240 pupils aged 11-19 years old
*Provides placements for children and young people who have Complex Moderate Learning Difficulties (CMLD) and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
*Follows the National Curriculum with no students disapplied.
*Offers vocational training opportunities and life skills development
*Has an onsite Multi-Disciplinary Team, comprising of Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists.
*Is well resourced to support SEN pupils with a sensory room, break-out spaces and a nurture room
