This is a unique opportunity for Graduate Teaching Assistants keen to develop their skills and experience in Special Educational Needs. Based in Hillingdon, this Secondary SEN School caters for 240 pupils with a wide range of SEN needs including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism (ASC), Dyslexia and Dyspraxia (SpLD). Classes are made up of 10 pupils with 1 teacher and 1-2 teaching assistants. All Teaching Assistants are Team Teach trained and the school has on-site trainers to support new staff to gain this certification. For the right person, the school will offer support to gain your teaching qualification as they believe in growing and developing staff to become long term members of the team.

The school supports children of many different abilities, from Mild Learning Difficulties to complex needs. As a Teaching Assistant you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced class teachers and work alongside the on-site Multi-Disciplinary team (MDT). The MDT assess students and create individualised therapy plans to support each student with their specific learning and behaviour needs. Proactively managing behaviour is central to the role of Teaching Assistants in this school, you will develop a strong understand of pupils needs and develop a wide range of strategies to support pupils to engage positively in class.

Independence is encouraged with pupils being supported to grow their confidence and competence academically, socially and with life skills every day. Academic classes are taught alongside vocational and skill-based classes such as Design and Technology, Food Technology, Hairdressing and Beauty, Horticulture, Dance and Art. There is also a house on site, where students can learn and practice the basic skills needed for independent living, such as cooking, setting the table, washing up, re-decorating, etc.

This position is best suited to Teaching Assistants who are passionate about SEN and have experience working with Autism (ASC) and complex moderate learning difficulties (CMLD). All students in the class will have an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). Comfortable working with secondary aged pupils, you will be able to adapt your approach to suit each student's ability.

The Teaching Assistant would:
*Work with a class of 10 pupils, supporting students 1:1 and in small groups
*Support pupils with complex needs, moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and Autism (ASC)
*Use proactive de-escalation techniques and follow individual therapy plans
*Be responsible for ensuring all students achieve their highest potential
*Tailor the learning environment and subject material to suit individual needs
*Ideally be Team Teach trained
