We are looking for a special Teaching Assistant to work closely with a young male student in this Secondary Class for lower ability students. This role is to start immediately and continue long term.
This Secondary Special school provides specialist support to a wide range to students of all levels and abilities. Students in this lower ability class require support with complex needs and severe learning difficulties. Expereince providing personal care or a willingness to learn how to do this is essential in this role. A background in Health Care or being a Health Care Assistant is highly desired but not essential.
This OFSTED rated Good Special School is based in Hillingdon, and caters students aged 11-19 years of age with a total of 240 pupils currently enrolled. A multidisciplinary approach is used to ensure all students are given opportunities to learn and develop and the school employs specialist staff such as Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists to work alongside the teaching team.
There is a strong emphasis on suporting students to develop confidence and independent living skills with day to day life skills incorporated in lessons every day. Academic classes are taught alongside vocational and skill-based classes such as Design and Technology, Food Technology, Hairdressing and Beauty, Horticulture, Dance and Art. There is also a house on site, where students can learn and practice the basic skills needed for independent living, such as cooking, setting the table, washing up, re-decorating, etc.
Based close to Hillingdon Hospital, the school has access to many transport links and there are extensive grounds with a wide range of facilities.
This position is best suited to Teaching Assistants who are experienced supporting lower ability pupils requiring personal care. This is a school that is keen to find the right team member, who will fit in well with the existing team and be a positive influence on the lives of these students.
The Teaching Assistant would:
*Be a key support for a young male student requiring personal cares
*Be a positive role model and provide sensitive support to help students achieve their goals
*Be creative with communication strategies for students developing communication
*Work well within a team of TA's and Teachers to create a positive working environment
*Tailor the learning environment and subject material to suit individual needs
*Ideally be Team Teach trained
