Are you an experienced SENCo looking for your next challenge to start in April 2021? SANZA Teaching Agency are working in partnership with an 'outstanding' Primary School based in the heart of Barnet who are actively recruiting for a SENCo.

General

  • To provide leadership and direction for the department and ensure that it is managed and organised to meet the aims and objectives of the school and the subject.
  • To be responsible for ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the department.
  • To stay abreast of the latest educational research into the teaching of and have an in‐‐depth knowledge of dyslexia and dyspraxia and working knowledge of other SENs.
  • Ability to interpret educational assessments and devise suitable programmes for students with SEND.
  • Experience in delivering individual multisensory literacy/numeracy programmes.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology available to students with SEN.
  • To effectively manage the department budget together with the Director of Studies.
  • To communicate directly with parents re ls provision.
  • To be responsible for whole school assessment and pupil progress tracking including the EYFS
  • To organise the writing and distribution of appropriate IEP's for all pupils that require them including able child IEP's.
  • To attend parents' Evenings and meet existing and prospective parents as required.

Teaching and Learning

  • To ensure effective curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the subject for all pupils by modifying and updating Schemes of Work in collaboration with the Director of Studies, HOD's and teaching staff.
  • To provide guidance to members of the department on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods, and to ensure regular peer observation occurs.
  • To ensure the development of pupil's literacy, numeracy and information communication technology skills through the subject where relevant.
  • To establish clear policies for assessing, recording and reporting on student achievement, and using these to set targets for further improvement.
  • To establish high expectations and ensure that clear targets are set for student achievement including those with special educational needs, English as a Second Language and the more able.
  • To use data effectively to identify pupils who are underachieving and create plans of action with target setting.
  • To ensure effective development of pupils' individual learning skills takes place.

Administration

  • To ensure that all staff complete appropriate CPD and attend regular and relevant INSET, both internal and external.
  • To liaise with the Director of Studies to ensure that the Learning Support timetable is effective and functional.
  • To plan an active role in the Heads of Department and other relevant departmental meetings.
  • Referral of pupils for assessment.
  • Meeting and evaluating prospective SEN pupils and advising the Headmaster and Director of Studies.
  • Overseeing Access Arrangements for exams and advising secondary schools of any pupils with access arrangements.
  • Arrangement of internal academic SEND screening and individual assessments.
  • Monitoring provision of LS at NJPS.
  • Management of any students who may have EHCP's, including organising annual and transitional reviews.
  • Update ISI results portal annually.

Requirements for this role

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Keen interest in Maths
  • Relevant SENCo experience
  • National SENCo award
  • Experience working within an appropriate setting and knowledge of child development, attachment disorder, and SEN conditions in particular ASD, ADHD and ODD
  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Experience of leading and managing staff
