Tradewind are recruiting! Are you looking for you next role teaching Music in Newham? Would you like to join a high-achieving school in Newham, West London? If so, Leanne.king@twrecruitment.com would like to hear from you today.

This client is an exceptional school: Their vision is a world class education for young people in Newham. They are an 11-16 comprehensive school at the heart of its community. Recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country (DfE, January 2014) this is reflected in their sustained drive to become an Outstanding school with their Progress 8 at +0.30 and our Progress 8 for disadvantaged students in the top 20% of all schools nationally.

In their December 2018 Ofsted the inspectors found that the school has maintained the good quality of education and 'made strong progress in many aspects of the school's provision since our last inspection in September 2013. Their many strengths are highlighted, including how students are 'courteous and articulate' and 'say they enjoy school and value the wide range of opportunities they are given'. They are very proud that the report recognises our high aspirations, the hard work and good behaviour of students, and the dedication and commitment of staff.

The school benefits from a range of external partnerships including becoming the first partner school in the Music in Secondary Schools Trust, supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Music Foundation and the Charles Wolfson Charitable Trust.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an exceptional Music Teacher to join a dynamic team which is growing in order to enhance the music provision across our school community. This school is a successful community comprehensive, with specialisms in Science and Music, and provides a broad and rich curriculum for all its students. The school is part of the Newham Community Schools Trust (NCST) with three other secondary schools within the area. The music department also benefits from a formal arrangement between five of its feeder primaries, enabled by Newham Council's enrichment programme, working closely with each school to develop their music offers as part of our Primary Cluster.

In the last seven years this school has made a huge commitment to Music education, and provides every student in Years 7 and 8 with free small group instrumental tuition, Following the creation of a non-teaching Director of Community Music post, our students also benefit from an exceptional range of partnerships and collaborative work with organisations such as the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST), Newham Music Hub, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the Southbank Centre, Newham Council and others.

The Music team is ambitious for the students, staff and local community. They are committed to continuing to develop high quality music education with high levels of participation in extra-curricular activities. Our community opera. 'Full Circle', run in partnership with Newham Music, brought together local young people and residents to write, compose and perform an original piece of work. The project was nationally recognised when it won the 'Outstanding Musical Initiative' award at the Music Teacher Awards in March 2019. This work then culminated in a large-scale borough-wide project which saw over 700 performers take to the stage as the massed ensemble item at the Music for Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2019. This fantastic achievement of students was a huge success and they rightly gained national media attention due to the performance at the event.

Tradewind are actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated musician and teacher who will work with their talented and motivated team to ensure that the Music education at this school is genuinely world-class. Excellent instrumental skills are essential; so too are the commitment, subject knowledge and high expectations which will lead to students achieving top grades in this subject. Willingness to work collaboratively and to support a wide range of extracurricular activities, including residential trips and high profile visits and performances, is essential. We welcome applicants from all musical backgrounds who are open to a challenge and will bring other expertise and skills to the team.

Early application is encouraged as ideally hoping to interview and appoint someone as soon as possible.
