You will be working in a specialist unit for students with Autism, based on the mainstream primary site. Feedback from all staff who have worked here is amazing, the school has wonderful resources and facilities for their SEN pupils. Staff also consistently feedback on the positive working environment created by the team and senior leadership.

The class you will be supporting are aged Reception to Year 2. All students have a diagnosis of Autism and some are non-verbal. Experience supporting students with non-verbal communication strategies will be essential in this role.

If you've worked with children with ASC professionally or have experience with Autism in your personal life, I'm keen to hear from you. The ideal candidate will have experience using PECS and MAKATON and be confident to use nonverbal communication techniques. Experience in primary school settings and as a Teaching Assistant is essential in this role.

Students in the provision are aged from Reception to Year 6, with 14 pupils in total in the unit. Teaching Assistants work on a one to one basis and in small groups with students, providing individualised support for each child.

The school draws on a wide range of approaches to support students, with a special focus on non-verbal techniques like PECS and Makaton. There is a strong culture of support and promoting independence in students as they develop. All staff nurture resilience, social skills and confidence in students with regular community outings to develop living skills as well as regular integration with mainstream classes and peers.

The Teaching Assistant:
*Is experienced with Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties and non verbal students
*Has experience working in school settings
*Confident providing 1:1 support and facilitating small groups
*Experienced working with Primary school children and with the national curriculum
*Aware of and able to use PECS, Makaton and nonverbal communication strategies

The school has:
*Been OFSTED rated Good at their last inspection
*Mainstream pupils aged 3 - 11 years of age
*A role of 270 pupils across the school and 14 pupils in the SEN provision
*A specialist unit for students with Autism and Severe Learning Difficulties
*A focus on MAKATON and PECS within the Unit
*Therapy professionals such as a Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist who visit the school to support students
