Our client is currently recruiting Teaching Assistants to assist in the support and inclusion of children with Special Educational Needs/diverse learning needs.
This is a SEN Secondary School in East Herts which provides education for students with a range of needs including Autism, Down's Syndrome and other conditions that result in a developmental delay. The school caters for 160 pupils in School year 7 to 11. Academically the children are taught a primary curriculum.
You will be required to work under the supervision of the class teacher, sometimes taking the whole class to enable the teacher to work with small groups; depending on grade, to also cover classes in the absence of any class teacher.
Main Core Duties:
Supporting the child:
*To develop a knowledge of a range of learning support needs and to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the children to be supported.
*Taking into account the learning support involved, to aid the children to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on his/her own by, for example:
*Clarifying and explaining instructions
*Ensuring the child is able to use the equipment and materials provided
*Helping pupils to concentrate on and finish work set
*Meeting physical needs as required whilst encouraging independence
*Liaising with class teacher and Senior Teaching Assistant about individual education plans (IEPs)
*Developing appropriate resources to support the children
*To establish a supportive relationship with the children concerned
*To encourage acceptance and inclusion of children
*To develop methods of promoting/reinforcing the child's self-esteem
*To provide basic First Aid during the course of a school day and whilst off-site where necessary
*To provide Intimate Care to pupils during the course of a school day and whilst off-site where necessary
Supporting the Teacher:
*To assist, with the class teacher (and other professionals as appropriate), in the development of a suitable programme of support (IEPs) for children who need learning support
*In conjunction with the class teacher and/or other professionals to develop a system of recording the children's progress
*To contribute to the maintenance of children's progress records
*To participate in the evaluation of the support programme
*To provide regular feedback about the children to the teacher
The ideal person for this role will be an experienced professional who will bring an engaging personality and a sense of humour to the work of the school. You will be expected to bring creativity and innovation to developing a holistic curriculum designed to meet the needs of the individual student.
This role is to start asap with the view to go permanent for the right candidate. The school surrounded in beautiful green land, is a 15-minute walk from a mainline train station and also has a large onsite carpark.
