Job Description
Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Intervention Teaching Assistant to join the team at a large primary school based in Northfield, Birmingham.
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide essential support to students with special educational needs, ensuring they have the opportunity to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. The successful candidate will work closely with the SEN Coordinator or Inclusion Manager to create and implement tailored intervention strategies, assist in classroom activities, and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Individualised Support:
Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who have special educational needs.
Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour plans under the guidance of the SEN Coordinator.
Classroom Support:
Assist classroom teachers in adapting lesson plans and materials to meet the needs of students with SEN.
Provide support during classroom activities, ensuring students with SEN can fully participate and engage.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
Regularly assess and monitor the progress of students with SEN, tracking their academic and social development.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to the evaluation of intervention strategies.
Communication and Collaboration:
Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and maintain effective communication channels.
Attend meetings and provide input on students' progress and intervention plans.
Behaviour Management:
Implement behaviour management strategies to support students with SEN in maintaining positive behaviour in the classroom and school environment.
Inclusive Environment:
Promote an inclusive and welcoming classroom and school environment where all students feel valued and respected.
Requirements:
Experience of working with children with special educational needs, particularly autism.
Knowledge of the EYFS curriculum and how to effectively support children with autism in the classroom.
Ability to use a range of specialist strategies and resources to support children with autism.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with parents, carers and other professionals.
Highly organized with good record-keeping skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate a positive, flexible and proactive attitude.
