Behaviour Mentor - Join a Specialist PRU in Barnet

Tradewind Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a highly supportive Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Barnet, seeking an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their team from September 2025.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people who face social, emotional, and behavioural challenges within education.

About the Role:

You will play a key role in working with students who have SEND, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, and behavioural difficulties. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with behavioural and emotional challenges

  • Promoting a positive learning environment through firm but compassionate behaviour strategies

  • De-escalating challenging situations and promoting positive choices

  • Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and other professionals to support individual learning plans

  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor to pupils

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Prior experience working with young people with challenging behaviour, ideally in a PRU, SEMH school, or youth work setting

  • An understanding of a trauma-informed approach to behaviour

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Resilience, patience and a calm, professional manner

  • Relevant training such as Team Teach or MAPA is highly desirable

  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
