Teaching Assistant - Autism specialist

We're looking for a compassionate and skilled Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the DE55 area from September 2025. This full-time role focuses on supporting pupils with Autism across Primary age ranges, providing tailored academic and emotional support in both one-to-one and small group settings.
You'll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals (e.g. autism specialists, speech and language therapists) to adapt learning materials, implement autism-friendly strategies, and contribute to EHCP reviews and SEN planning. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on children's confidence, communication, and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted support to KS2 pupils with autism, both 1:1 and in small groups
- Use autism-informed approaches to adapt resources and learning environments
- Support sensory regulation, social communication, and emotional wellbeing
- Implement structured interventions (e.g. visual timetables, social stories, TEACCH)
- Track pupil progress and contribute to SEN reviews and EHCP meetings
- Foster strong relationships with pupils, families, and the wider school team
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience supporting children with autism in a primary setting
- Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent
- Knowledge of autism strategies (e.g. PECS, Zones of Regulation, sensory tools)
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusive education
Desirable:
- Experience working with KS2 pupils and EHCPs
- Training in autism-specific approaches or trauma-informed practice
- Familiarity with communication aids and sensory integration techniques
