SEN Teaching Assistant - Autism, ADHD, SEMH & Speech & Language
Location: DE7
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Term-time only (39 weeks), Monday-Friday, approx. 8:30-15:30
Salary: £90-£110 per day (PAYE)
About the Role
We're recruiting passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to join inclusive primary and specialist SEN schools from September. These roles involve supporting pupils with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, and speech & language difficulties.
You'll work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to deliver tailored support, implement structured interventions, and help pupils thrive both academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs
- Support emotional regulation, sensory needs, and communication development
- Implement strategies such as PECS, Zones of Regulation, and social stories
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to SEN reviews and EHCP planning
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience supporting children with SEND (Autism, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN)
- Level 2/3 TA qualification or equivalent
- Empathy, patience, and a proactive approach to inclusive education
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
Desirable:
- Experience in specialist settings or with EHCP pupils
- Training in autism support, behaviour management, or speech & language strategies
- Familiarity with communication aids and sensory tools
