Autism Teaching Assistant | Primary Schools | Central London

Are you a passionate and experienced Teaching Assistant seeking rewarding full-time opportunities supporting children with Autism Spectrum Conditions? Do you want to make a meaningful difference to young learners while developing your specialist skills in autism support? Tradewind Recruitment have multiple full-time Teaching Assistant positions available across Central London primary schools. These include mainstream primary schools with autism units, specialist autism schools, and inclusive settings with high numbers of children on the autism spectrum. These positions offer the opportunity to work with dedicated teams while supporting children with autism to achieve their full potential.

As an Autism Teaching Assistant you will be responsible for the below:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to children with Autism Spectrum Conditions aged 4-11
  • Implementing individualized learning programs and supporting Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Using specialized autism interventions including TEACCH, PECS, Social Stories and sensory regulation strategies
  • Supporting children with communication needs using Makaton, visual aids and assistive technologies
  • Helping to create calm, structured learning environments that reduce anxiety and promote engagement
  • Working collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals including Speech and Language Therapists

To join us and be successful in this role you will ideally need:

  • Previous experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Conditions in educational settings
  • Understanding of autism-specific teaching strategies and behavioral support approaches
  • Knowledge of sensory processing needs and de-escalation techniques
  • Strong communication skills and patience when supporting children with varying communication abilities
  • Relevant qualifications in autism support, SEN or childcare (desirable but not essential)
  • Current Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (where applicable) and satisfactory professional references
  • Complete CV detailing employment history for the previous 10 years where available
  • Valid right to work in the UK
