At Tradewind, we have thousands of jobs for SEN teaching assistants in Essex and across the UK for all entry levels; those who are completely new and thinking about becoming a teaching assistant, right through to seasoned teaching assistants looking for a change.

When you become a SEN Teaching Assistant you will need to be able to deal with difficult situations, possess huge amounts of patience and understanding, appreciating your students’ needs and helping them to learn. You will need to manage challenging behaviour and the perfect candidate should have the desire to help those who are more academically and socially disadvantaged. You’ll be working with pupils who may be physically disabled, have sensory difficulties, be emotionally vulnerable or have Dyslexia, Autism or ADHD.

What does the role of a SEN teaching assistant involve?

  • Helping the children with tasks such as reading or writing
  • Providing additional support to children with extra special needs or international language students
  • Helping the teacher prepare for lessons e.g. setting up the classrooms
  • Encourage and support the children
  • Mental health support

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support children who have difficulties with reading, writing and numeracy, difficulties with understanding and processing information, or have sensory and physical needs. Not only will you be helping the children, but you will be able to grow and develop as an individual, learning new things every day as you progress in your SEN Job.
