We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and motivated Learning Mentor to join our inclusive secondary school in Barking. You'll play a vital role in supporting students who are experiencing barriers to learning-whether academic, emotional or behavioural-helping them to stay engaged and succeed.

The Role:

As a Learning Mentor, you will provide 1:1 and small group mentoring, deliver personalised support plans, and work closely with pastoral staff, teaching teams, and families. Your support will help students re-engage with school life and improve their confidence, behaviour, and academic performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted 1:1 and group mentoring to students who need additional support

  • Help students develop confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset toward learning

  • Monitor progress and support behaviour management strategies

  • Liaise with teachers, parents/carers, and external agencies to provide holistic support

  • Assist in reducing barriers to learning, including attendance and emotional wellbeing issues

  • Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in education, youth work, or pastoral care

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A calm, empathetic, and positive approach to working with students

  • Ability to build strong, professional relationships with students and staff

  • A background in psychology, youth work, or social care is desirable but not essential
