The Opportunity:
As a Sports Graduate at our Preston secondary school, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our students' physical well-being, skill development, and overall engagement in sports. This position offers significant hands-on experience, supporting both curricular PE lessons and a wide range of extracurricular activities. It's an ideal stepping stone for those pursuing a PGCE or further careers in sports coaching or education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting PE teachers in the planning and delivery of engaging and inclusive PE lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4.
- Leading and supporting a variety of extracurricular sports clubs, practices, and fixtures (e.g., football, netball, rugby, athletics, basketball, badminton, etc.).
- Mentoring and coaching individual students or small groups to develop their sporting skills and teamwork.
- Promoting a positive and active lifestyle, encouraging student participation and enthusiasm for physical activity.
- Supporting with the organisation and running of school sports events, inter-house competitions, and sports day.
- Assisting with the set-up and pack-down of equipment, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Supervising students during PE lessons, break times, and extracurricular activities, promoting good behaviour and positive sportsmanship.
- Acting as a positive role model and fostering a culture of respect, resilience, and fair play.
- Contributing to the wider school community and supporting other school activities as required.
- Adhering to all school policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safeguarding and student welfare.
The Ideal Candidate:
- A recent graduate with a degree in Sports Science, Physical Education (PE), Sports Coaching, Sports Development, or a related field.
- A genuine passion for sports and a strong understanding of its benefits for young people.
- Experience (formal or informal, e.g., coaching, volunteering, youth work) working with children or young people aged 11-16 is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and able to inspire and motivate students.
- Adaptable and willing to support a variety of sports and activities.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
