SEMH Support Assistant
Location: Preston
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only
Salary: £90 - £105 (dependent on experience)


Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
We're seeking a dedicated and resilient SEMH Support Assistant to join our inclusive, student-centred team. You'll play a vital role in supporting children who face barriers to learning due to emotional or behavioural challenges.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Supporting students to regulate emotions, engage in learning, and access the curriculum

  • Using positive behaviour strategies and restorative practices to promote resilience and independence

  • Assisting with planning and delivering tailored learning activities, in and out of class

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

  • Supporting with personal care, transitions, or community learning (as required)


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, ASD, or challenging behaviour (school or youth work background welcomed)

  • Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach

  • Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour training (or willingness to undertake training)

  • Excellent communication and de-escalation skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil well being

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or Youth Work) are desirable
