SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Barking and Dagenham
Role: SEN Teaching Assistant - 1:1 Autism Support
Start Date: June 2025
Contract: Long-term, Full-time
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (depending on experience)

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with a passion for making a real difference in the lives of children with Autism?
Do you have school-based SEN experience and want to work in well-resourced, inclusive primary schools in Romford.

Tradewind Recruitment are working with primary schools offering nurturing and inclusive environments where Learning and Support Assistants play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These schools provide tailored, high-quality SEND provisions, including individualised learning plans and targeted interventions designed to help every child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with Autism (ASD) or Special Educational Needs in a school setting
  • Confidence supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups (phonics experience desirable)
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and staff
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • A good understanding of child development and IEP and EHCP targets

Essential Compliance for Teaching Assistants:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Your CV must contain all work since leaving formal education
  • 2 professional references (within the last 2 years)
  • Overseas police check (if applicable)
