We're working with a specialist autism and SEN school with an attached residential home in Preston to recruit Residential Support Workers who are passionate, proactive, and ready to make a difference.

This is more than just a care role - you'll be a role model, activity leader, and advocate for young people with autism and complex communication needs.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supporting children and young people (ages 8-19) in both the residential home and on-site school

  • Providing personal care, emotional support, and life skills coaching

  • Building strong, positive relationships with young people

  • Assisting with education, activities, and daily routines

  • Acting as a key worker where appropriate

  • Helping non-verbal young people using PECs, visual timetables, or SmartBox technology

Shift Patterns:

Full-Time:

  • Two shifts of 7am-10pm

  • One additional 10-hour shift (total 40 hours/week)

  • Fridays: Early finishes if all work is complete!

Part-Time:

  • 10 to 30 hours per week available

  • Flexible schedules

What They're Looking For:

  • Personality over experience - a positive, "can-do" attitude is essential

  • Someone who takes initiative and thinks on their feet (e.g., leading fun, meaningful activities)

  • Experience in SEMH or autism settings is desirable but not essential

  • Willingness to provide personal care

  • Strong, clear spoken English (essential for pupil communication)

  • Polish speakers encouraged to apply due to current student needs - but not essential

Training & Development:

  • Full Teaching Assistant training offered for the right candidate

  • Opportunity to gain Level 3 in Children's Social Care

  • Regular CPD, safeguarding, and health & safety training provided
