We are seeking an adaptable and enthusiastic Outdoor Cover Teacher to join our team in a secondary school in Preston from September 2025. This unique role involves delivering engaging lessons in our dedicated outdoor learning spaces, blending the curriculum with hands-on, nature-based activities.
The Role & Responsibilities 🎯
As an Outdoor Cover Teacher, you will:
Deliver Pre-Planned Lessons: Supervise and deliver pre-planned lessons for absent teachers, but with a unique focus on utilising our school's outdoor facilities, such as the school grounds, garden, or dedicated outdoor learning zones.
Classroom Management (Outside): Maintain a positive and productive learning environment in an outdoor setting, ensuring student safety and engagement.
Promote Outdoor Learning: Inspire students to connect with nature, integrating subjects like science, geography, and art into the outdoor environment.
Flexibility: Be prepared to work across a range of subjects and year groups, providing essential cover and ensuring a seamless learning experience for all students.
Safeguarding: Uphold the school's safeguarding and child protection policies at all times, both indoors and out.
Who We Are Looking For ✨
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): You must hold a valid QTS or be an ECT ready to begin your career.
Outdoor Experience: A genuine passion for and experience in outdoor learning, with the confidence to lead activities in an open-air environment.
Adaptability: The ability to quickly and effectively adapt to different teaching plans and student groups.
Resilience: The capacity to be resilient and resourceful, comfortable working in various weather conditions.
Commitment: A strong commitment to student well-being and a positive attitude towards innovative teaching methods.
