Outdoor Education Teacher - Preston Secondary School (October 2025 Start)

We are seeking a passionate and resilient individual to join our team in Preston as an Outdoor Education Teacher. This is not a traditional classroom role; instead, you'll use the principles of outdoor learning to engage and manage students in a secondary school setting. Your ability to connect with young people and lead them in hands-on, practical activities is more important than a formal teaching qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise classes in an alternative, outdoor-focused setting.

  • Utilise outdoor education as a tool to improve student engagement, attendance, and behaviour.

  • Plan and lead practical activities that connect students with nature, such as bush-craft, team building, and environmental projects.

  • Build strong rapport with young people, addressing behavioural challenges with a youth work approach.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure the well-being and progress of every student.

What We're Looking For

  • Essential Experience: You must have demonstrable experience in outdoor education, youth work, or a similar field.

  • A natural ability to manage groups and lead activities in a safe and structured manner.

  • Strong communication skills and a patient, empathetic approach.

  • A passion for the outdoors and a genuine desire to make a difference in young people's lives.

  • The resilience to work effectively with diverse and sometimes challenging groups.
