Behaviour Support Assistant

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our SEN school team. The role focuses on supporting students with behavioural, emotional, and social challenges, promoting positive behaviour, and creating a safe and nurturing learning environment. This position offers hands-on experience in behaviour management strategies and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and reinforce individual behaviour support plans, strategies, and interventions as designed by teachers, psychologists, or behaviour specialists.

  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies.

  • Assist students in resolving conflicts and building positive relationships with peers and staff.

  • Observe, record, and report on student behaviour, emotional wellbeing, and progress, ensuring accurate and timely feedback to the teaching team.

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and senior staff to adapt strategies to meet individual student needs.

  • Contribute to school-wide behaviour initiatives, supporting a consistent and positive school culture.

  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

  • Promote inclusion and respect for diversity, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic, with the ability to respond consistently in challenging situations.

  • Strong interest in psychology, child development, education, or behaviour management.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with students, staff, and families.

  • Observant and organised, with attention to detail for tracking progress and documenting behaviour data.

  • Ability to follow structured strategies and guidance while being flexible to adapt to individual student needs.

  • A proactive team player who contributes positively to the wider school environment.
