Job Description

At Tradewind Recruitment, we believe every young person deserves the chance to succeed, no matter their background or challenges. We work closely with specialist schools and alternative provisions across Wiltshire to match passionate, caring and resilient people with roles where they can make a real difference.

We're looking for dedicated, resilient and caring SEMH Teaching Assistants to join a number of specialist schools and alternative provisions across Wiltshire.
These schools support secondary-aged students (11-16) who may face barriers to learning linked to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as ADHD, ASD, trauma or other additional needs.

About the Schools & APs
These specialist settings provide safe, structured and nurturing environments for secondary-aged students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, ADHD, ASD, trauma or other additional needs - many of whom have struggled in mainstream education.

Staff work as part of a dedicated, supportive team, creating a calm and consistent atmosphere where every student is valued and understood. Smaller class sizes allow for personalised learning and strong, trusting relationships that help pupils re-engage with education and develop confidence.

The curriculum blends academic, practical and outdoor learning - encouraging students to build resilience, independence and pride in their achievements. With a therapeutic and trauma-informed approach, these schools focus on emotional regulation, positive relationships and celebrating progress every step of the way!

What you'll be doing
* Supporting students in their learning, wellbeing and emotional development
* Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams to deliver engaging, individualised support
* Building trusted relationships that help students develop confidence, self-regulation and social skills
* Supporting students in class, in small groups and through one-to-one interventions
* Helping to maintain a calm, safe and positive school environment where every child can thrive

What we're looking for
* A genuine passion for supporting young people, especially those with additional or SEMH needs
* Experience working as a SEMH Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant would be ideal!
* Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach
* Great communication and teamwork skills
* Experience in education, care or youth work is an advantage - but not essential, as full training is provided
* An interest in PE, outdoor learning, creative arts or vocational subjects is always welcome.
