This school is a thriving special school in Chinley, Derbyshire, serving pupils with a wide range of additional needs across a broad catchment area including Derbyshire, Tameside, and Cheshire. They believe in a "unique people, individualised approach" to learning-every child matters and receives tailored support.

As part of a Multi-Academy Trust, they collaborate with other special schools to share best practice and continuously improve the education and care we provide.

Tradewind are looking for caring, enthusiastic, and committed individuals to join our team as Teaching Assistants and help make a difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in class, working one-to-one or in small groups, under the direction of the teacher

  • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs and learning styles

  • Assist with behaviour management strategies and maintain a positive learning environment

  • Support pupils with communication, mobility, personal care, and social interaction, as required

  • Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and SENCOs

  • Assist with planning, preparation, and assessment as directed

  • Promote independence and self-esteem in pupils

  • Liaise with other professionals (therapists, external agencies) and parents/carers

  • Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and health & safety standards

Person Specification / Desired Qualities

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a special school or SEN environment (but not essential)

  • Patience, empathy, and a positive "can-do" attitude

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work under direction and independently

  • Flexibility, initiative, and resilience in a busy school setting

  • Good organisational skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality of opportunity

  • Willingness to undertake training and professional development
