Temporary Behaviour Mentor (SEMH Focus)
Are you a highly resilient and experienced Behaviour Mentor seeking an impactful temporary role this academic year? We are recruiting a dedicated specialist to join the pastoral team at a supportive secondary school in Burnley, Lancashire.
This role is vital for managing challenging behaviour and providing support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals with experience in PRU, youth work, or alternative provision settings.
The Role: Supporting Challenging Behaviour
You will be the frontline support, providing stability, structure, and emotional guidance to students requiring intensive behavioural intervention.
In-Class De-escalation: Provide immediate, on-the-spot support within classrooms to manage and de-escalate disruptive behaviour, allowing learning to continue.
1:1 Intervention: Lead targeted mentoring and emotional regulation sessions with identified pupils to improve their coping strategies and self-esteem.
Strategy Implementation: Confidently and calmly execute individual behaviour plans (IBPs) and risk assessments, ensuring a consistent, positive behaviour support approach.
Collaboration: Work closely with the SENCO, Pastoral Leads, and teaching staff, contributing detailed feedback on student progress and incidents.
Mentorship: Act as a reliable and positive role model, helping students with SEMH needs re-engage with the school community.
Essential Skills & Requirements
Experience: Significant, demonstrable experience working directly with young people (ages 11-16) who exhibit challenging behaviour and/or have SEMH needs (PRU, Alternative Provision, or specialist setting experience is highly valued).
Expertise: Proven ability in de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management.
Resilience: Exceptional personal resilience and patience, with a calm and non-judgemental approach.
Availability: Must be available to start the temporary contract on November 3rd, 2025.
Compliance: A strong commitment to safeguarding and must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check registered to the Update Service.
